Lumbar Compression and Shear Loading during Simulated Fireground Operations

چکیده
Together with 3D kinematics of the lower extremities, pelvis, and lumbar spine, ground reaction forces (GRF) and surface EMG signals from the following bilateral trunk muscle groups were recorded: external and internal abdominal obliques; rectus abdominus; lumbar and thoracic erector spinae; and latissimus dorsi. Kinematic and GRF data were incorporated in a “bottom-up” inverse dynamical linked-segment model to yield estimates of L4/L5 net reaction forces and moments (performed in Visual3DTM, C-Motion, Inc.). These kinetic quantities were then input with normalized EMG data into a musculoskeletal model of the torso [1] to compute peak L4/L5 joint compression and shear forces during task performance. The general data acquisition, signal processing, and EMG-toforce modeling procedures are described elsewhere [2].

Wheelchair pushing and turning: lumbar spine and shoulder loads and recommended limits.
The objective of this study was to determine how simulated manual wheelchair pushing influences biomechanical loading to the lumbar spine and shoulders. Sixty-two subjects performed simulated wheelchair pushing and turning in a laboratory. An electromyography-assisted biomechanical model was used to estimate spinal loads. Moments at the shoulder joint, external hand forces and net turning torqu...
متن کاملLoading along the lumbar spine as influence by speed, control, load magnitude, and handle height during pushing.
BACKGROUND Low back loading and risk associated with pushing activities have been poorly understood. Previous studies have demonstrated that increases in anterior/posterior shear forces are primarily initiated by antagonistic coactivity within the torso. Yet, few studies have considered the range of activities that might contribute to the antagonistic coactivation and subsequent spine loading. ...
متن کاملLoad-displacement properties of lower cervical spine motion segments.
The load-displacement behavior of 35 fresh adult cervical spine motion segments was measured in compression, shear, flexion, extension, lateral bending and axial torsion tests. Motion segments were tested both intact and with posterior elements removed. Applied forces ranged to 73.6 N in compression and to 39 N in shear, while applied moments ranged to 2.16 Nm. For each mode of loading, princip...
متن کاملA biomechanical analysis of manual lifting tasks performed in restricted workspaces.
This paper describes the results of an experimental study aimed at evaluating the biomechanical effects of working in a spatially restricted environment on manual lifting tasks. The main objective of the study is to estimate the biomechanical loading (in terms of peak compression and shear forces) on the lumbar spine for the selected combinations of limited headroom heights and twisting angles....
متن کاملSubstructure Model for Concrete Behavior Simulation under Cyclic Multiaxial Loading
This paper proposes a framework for the constitutive model based on the semi-micromechanical aspects of plasticity, including damage progress for simulating behavior of concrete under multiaxial loading. This model is aimed to be used in plastic and fracture analysis of both regular and reinforced concrete structures, for the framework of sample plane crack approach. This model uses multilamina...
